Happy 250th Birthday Beethoven!

Ludwig van Beethoven was born in December 1770 in Bonn, Germany. 2020 marks the 250th year of Beethoven’s birth!

In honour of Beethoven’s 250th Birthday, “Joyful Jazz” is a jazz-oriented arrangement by Brandon Walker of Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy” from his monumental 9th Symphony.

Beethoven has always had a special place in Brandon’s heart and classical musical development, and this song is a tribute to the great composer and his music.

The new joyous take on the theme adds a repeating piano riff introduction section with the “Ode To Joy” melody and improvisations presented on soprano saxophone. Brandon Walker performs grand piano, soprano saxophone, organ, strings, glockenspiel and other percussion instruments. The “Walker Clapping Band” gives a hand in the production as well!

Piano and saxophone were recorded at famed Jukasa Studios, near Caledonia Ontario, by recording engineer Jill Zimmerman. Additional overdubs were performed at Brandon’s studio.
