I am honored to be selected as Georgia Music Teachers Association 2023 “Commissioned Composer”. As part of the national music teachers association, GMTA fosters excellence in music education.
The proposed commission is a four-movement suite for soprano saxophone and string trio. “Stages” will follow a music student’s journey in four parts — each movement will bring to life a learning stage for the student. The soprano saxophone will represent “the student,” and supporting, challenging, and engaging this voice will be a string trio (violin, viola, cello). Proposed performers include the composer on soprano saxophone and intermediate/advanced high school students from Atlanta or Savannah, Georgia, on violin, viola, and cello. The piece will be premiered in early November 2023 at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.
GMTA will also submit the commissioned work (score and audio) for the MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year Award.
