Stepping Back in Time with SCAD’s The Drowsy Chaperone
May was an absolute blast, and I was incredibly honored to be part of the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) musical/comedy production of The Drowsy Chaperone! The entire cast and crew poured their hearts into this show, and it truly paid off with a phenomenal production.
For me, it was a particularly exciting experience as I got to play Reed 1 in the challenging score. This meant diving headfirst into the vibrant and distinctive musical styles of the 1920s, which was a blast! Best of all, it gave me the perfect opportunity to feature my favorite horn: the soprano sax. There’s something about the sound of that instrument that just perfectly captures the spirit of that era.
We were incredibly fortunate to have the Chaperone orchestra led by the immensely talented Music Director Jasper Grant. His Broadway credits are seriously impressive, including shows like The Color Purple, Dear Evan Hansen, The Addams Family, and The Phantom of the Opera. Working under his direction was an enjoyable experience, and his expertise truly elevated the musical numbers.
It was a joy to be part of such a dedicated and talented team, bringing this hilarious and charming show to life. Here’s to the magic of live theater!
